Voices Program Volunteer » Voices Program
The Voices Program serves teen girls ages 12-17. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah partnered with Cornerstone Counseling in 2001 to serve this population. The girls are voluntarily enrolled in a class at their school to help with life skills, peer pressure, body image, and other issues facing teen girls. The Voices program is only open to female volunteers. We ask our volunteers for a one-year commitment and spend 1 hour a week with their Little Sister doing activities like riding bikes, window shopping, talking and simply hanging out. This unique program reaches out to teen girls, and gives both the volunteer and the child the opportunity to create an incredible friendship.
Commitment Level: 1 year, 1 hour each week.

- Contact Us: Fill our our voices online application or call 801.313.0303. We're happy to answer your questions, tell you about our programs and enrollment process, and get you started on your way to becoming a Big Sister. We'll provide a short telephone and/or email orientation with plenty of useful information.
- Auto Insurance & Driver License: Bring your auto insurance card and Driver License to your interview and we will make a photocopy.
- Background Check: We will complete a national background check through our agency. The cost is $10.00 (cash, credit, or check written to "BBBSU"). We require a national criminal history report for each volunteer age 18 and over.
- Agency Interview: The home interview usually takes a half hour to an hour. This is a great opportunity for our enrollment staff to learn more about you! Why are you volunteering, what do you like to do in your spare time, find out more about your personality, and decide which child would best suit you.
- Three References: We will contact the three people you have listed for references.
- Home Visit: A percentage of volunteers are chosen for a home visit. If you are randomly selected your enroller will call and schedule a visit to your home as part of the enrollment process.
- Matching Process: Once you have completed the enrollment process, your file will be reviewed. We will notify you if you have been accepted into our program, or referred to another agency. If you have been accepted, we will then contact you to tell you about a potential Little. You are under no obligation to accept the child the agency proposes to you. If you accept, we will contact the Little and the Parent to tell them about you. When all parties agree, we will schedule a match meeting between you, the parent, the child and the Case manager. At that meeting, boundaries, expectations, rules and goals will be discussed. You will then officially be matched, and you can start meeting with your Little Sister to do activities!
